How to write a CV?

The ability to compose correctly documents like CV or a Covering Letter – when the competition is intense – is believed to be the most essential skill in looking for employment. You should always accentuate your most valuable skills to have the biggest chances to win the competition. When your education profile and work experience are not sufficiently highlighted, your CV may be less attractive or even may not be taken into account while recruitment.

In this chapter you will find out what a proper CV layout should look like. The information provided herein explains also what each element of CV is to contain.

1. CURRICULUM VITAE

2. PERSONAL DATA

Put your personal details in here:

  • name and surname,
  • address,
  • telephone,
  • e-mail address,
  • date of birth.

3. EDUCATION PROFILE

All the schools you completed (in reverse chronological order):

  • school start and completion dates,
  • school name,
  • type,
  • specialization,
  • thesis title of the Master degree

4. WORK EXPERIENCE

Summarize your work experience in here. If you have just graduated from university or you are fresh on the labour market, place practical experience. If you have rich and varied work experience, list only the positions that may be related to the position you are applying for. Remember about reversed chronology.

  • exact start and completion dates of work,
  • name of the company (branch), position, some of your responsibilities (only the ones that are relevant)

5. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Give some information about the competitions you took part in, organizations you are a member of, student activity clubs, etc. You may skip this point if you have not participated in any.

6. ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • list some of your skills. You have to be specific,
  • English language (level; certificates),
  • computer skills (used applications).

7. INTERESTS

In here you should give a short list of your hobbies. Again, you have to be specific but concise, e.g. do not write sport, but the particular discipline.

8. PRIVACY POLICY

Remember about attaching the statement of consent to the processing of personal data.
“I hereby give consent for my personal data included in the job offer to be processed for the purposes of recruitment under the Data Protection Act 1997 (Dz. U. no. 133, item 883)”.

In Polish it will be:
„Wyrażam zgodę na przetwarzanie moich danych osobowych dla potrzeb niezbędnych do realizacji procesu rekrutacji, zgodnie z ustawą z dnia 29 sierpnia 1997 roku o ochronie danych osobowych (Dz. U. z 2002 r. Nr 101, poz. 926 z późn. zm.)”.
